Uppose you were the manager of the local sports arena and wanted to apply your knowledge of sets to the crowds that attend the different events hosted there. typically, your arena hosts basketball, hockey, arena football, ice skating, and trade shows, such as boating and rv shows and hunting and fishing shows. because you are interested in analyzing your patrons attendance and because you have a knowledge of sets, you realize that you need to collect a little more information when selling tickets. because you are the big cheese there, you have the authority to dictate to the ticketing staff that they collect this information. of course, providing the information is voluntary for the patrons, but they understand that you have their interest at heart. you might start by collecting age, gender, distance from home to arena. use the set terminology you learn in this module to discuss the patrons at various events. for example, the people that attend basketball events would be a set. people that attend hockey games would be a set. discuss your patron attendance at these different events in terms of intersection, union, complement, element of, etc. if it seems , suggest other information you think would be useful to collect during ticket sales. you (as the students of csci 105) should collaborate as a group to formulate an interesting analysis.
